On Sunday, November 4, 2007, two novice vintage car owners took off to have a picnic in Independence, Texas. Those making the trip were Ginger and Ernie Wentrcek in their 1925 Model T Tudor Sedan and Louis and Kay Gaston in their 1930 Model A Sedan. Friends Bob and Becky Wright rode with the Wentrceks. Cell phones were loaded with the numbers of Texas T Parts and a wrecker service - just in case there was a breakdown on the road.
The group stopped in Independence and visited the Independence General Store, which was built in the mid-1920's. This old-fashioned general store has tons of charm and is worth a stop if one is in the area. The next stop was Old Baylor Park where picnic tables were planted decades ago under grand oak trees. The sun was out and the November day was perfect for a picnic.
After lunch, the group went on a short drive down Coles-McCrocklin Road before returning home. The cars ran great and no one had to use their cell phones that day.
